Bloomflow intro 🎉

When I started working as a data analyst, I primarily worked with Excel. My first role was in accounting, and as many in the industry know, much of Wall Street and the broader financial world still runs on Excel spreadsheets. My typical workflow involved downloading reports from accounting software, then customizing them in Excel using tables, pivot tables, and diagrams. It was a heavily manual process—prone to two major problems: human error and data accuracy.

The nightmare of working with Excel Sheets…

Despite being focused and careful, I still made mistakes. And when errors were found in the original data or corrections were made in the system, I often had to start from scratch. My Excel sheets no longer matched the corrected source data, and that created serious inefficiencies. I was struggling, and it caused a lot of frustration. I knew there had to be a better way. I wanted to automate my work, so I began researching how I could simplify and streamline the entire process. That’s when I discovered that using a Business Intelligence (BI) system to build these reports could be a game-changer.

Life as a BI consultant 📊

My next role was as a BI consultant, where I worked directly with BI tools and built data models within them. At first, it seemed like I had finally found the perfect solution. The tools were powerful, and I could automate much of the reporting that used to take me hours. But over time, I began to struggle again. As I took on more complex projects, I faced a new set of challenges. Most companies don’t use just one system—they rely on a mix of software tools, Excel sheets, and internal platforms. They want to bring all this valuable data together in one place and generate unified reports. But with such high data volumes and scattered sources, even modern BI tools start to fall short.

Business Intelligence

Amazing tools but no one talks about the hidden layers..

So, I went back to researching. That’s when I discovered the power of data warehouses. It seemed like the perfect solution—until I hit another wall. The data warehouse ecosystem is built for the "big dogs": expensive, often cloud-based, and typically too technical for non-programmers. For many companies, especially smaller ones or those with on-premise infrastructure, it’s just not practical.

That’s when the idea hit me: What if I could create a tool that made it easy to build data pipelines, manage dataflows, schedule updates, and set up a full data warehouse—without needing to write code or rely on the cloud?

A solution that keeps everything inside a company’s existing IT architecture, while still being powerful and user-friendly.

Introducing My Data Warehouse Builder: Bloomflow

I'll share more about the development process and features in future posts, but here’s a quick overview of what Bloomflow can already do:

  • Connect to databases and create Datanodes

  • Upload and manage Excel sheets

  • Upload and handle XML files

  • Make API calls to external systems

  • Combine all these sources into custom dataflows

  • Document your dataflows and schedule them to run automatically in the background

If you have any questions, or if you’d like early access and want to explore a pilot project with me, feel free to reach out—I’d love to hear from you.
